About Me

Nat Harrison

I was born on Ascension Island in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean - you'll find it on the map between Africa and Brazil. Ascension is a remarkable place, home to green turtles, enormous land crabs and one active volcano.

I’ve had many interesting jobs over the years, working as a sweet seller, burger flipper, bingo caller, and ice cream whipper. I've also lived in Europe, Australia and the US, working for big technology and travel brands. The one thing in my life that has never changed is my enduring love of adventure stories.

A few years ago, I decided it was about time I wrote an adventure story of my own. So, I went back to school, studying at Bath Spa University’s MA in Writing for Young People. The idea for my debut novel, The Girl Who Raced the World, was created in the very first class and it’s been a dream come true bringing the story to life.

Now I spend my days dreaming up new adventure stories, which has to be the best job on earth. I also love exploring, close to home and far away, with my first mate, Jason, and cabin dog Shadow, who loves a good story almost as much as she does cheese!

We returned to the UK for a while, then just after my 10th birthday, we moved half way around the world to Hong Kong. It was like stepping through a magic door into a whole new world. I already had adventure in my heart but soon it sank into my bones. Hong Kong gave me ‘scratchy feet,’ as my Gran used to say, and I’ve been travelling ever since, exploring every continent except Antarctica.
